ODE publishes the official catalog
ODE, the high quality on demand publisher dedicated to the operators of the art system, has recently published the official catalog of 174 pages in a limited edition elegantly finished.
Laura Gallon and Beatrice Susa, founders of the Art Prize Laguna, introduce it this way:
When the work of art wants to break out of the darkness of what has not yet been accomplished, it invokes the artist’s eyes through a dream. By projecting its image deep into the artist’s soul, it aspires to come to life. The dream is laid bare, shedding light on things we often cannot see. What you are browsing through is not just a catalogue of artworks. It is a catalogue of dreams.
The true spirit of the Award and its current value are well argued by Igor Zanti, the curator, in his introductory speech appropriately titled “Open Call?”:
The base of thousands of more and less professional artists who enter the Prize provide a litmus test for what is commonly understood as art. The strenuous, accurate and precise work of the jury allows to select the works that integrate into the professional dimension and are consistent with the contemporary critical dimension. These choices are not laws set in stone but rather hints, cues and suggestions that are closely related to the professionalism and experience of the people who make them. This is therefore the meaning of the open call, which must be seen as an extraordinary opportunity, as something unique that characterizes this cultural event now in its ninth year.
